Funeral Services were held on Monday, December 8, 2008 for Jean Anderson Smith, a retired business owner for over 24 years and pre-school educator for over 36 years. She died Tuesday, December 2nd, of complications from dementia at her home.
John Edward McQueen Bey, 86
John Edward McQueen Bey was born in Cheraw, S.C. on Feb. 8, 1922. The son of Mattie M. Bey and John H. Bey, he was the youngest of three children, including the late Sara Frances Howard and Ethel Mae Henson.
Alveeta A. Mitchell, 50
Alveeta A. Mitchell, daughter of the late Florence D. Rollins and Andrew M. Rollins Jr., was born on May 21, 1958, in Baltimore. Winky, as she was affectionately known, was educated in the Howard County School System.
Ethel M. Cross, 94
Ethel M. Cross, daughter of Thomas and Lucinda Wright, was born on May 9, 1914 in Macon, Ga. Ethel departed this life on Oct. 14 in the arms of her grandson Phillip and the presence of her daughter Dorothy.
Hazel  F. Frazier, 71
Daughter of the late Nathaniel and Hazel V. Frazier, Hazel was born Feb. 3, 1937 in Baltimore. She died suddenly Nov. 22. She was a product of the Baltimore City Public School System. Hazel received five degrees of the Queen of the South, Order of the Eastern Star.
Annie Lee Saunders
Annie Lee Saunders was born on September 9, 1934 in Aspen, Virginia, to the late John L. and Ellen Brown. She was the first of three children, a sister, Parthenia Irving and a brother, Henry Brown, both of whom preceded her in death.
Milly R. Wilkins
Milly R. Wilkins, a lifelong member of St. Katherine of Alexandria Episcopal Church and a retired employee of the former C&P Telephone Company of Maryland, died at her Pikesville, Md. home Nov. 6, following a battle with cancer.
Col. Solomon Harp III
Colonel Solomon Harp III, son of the late Solomon Harp Jr. and Minnie Allen Harp was born Sept. 11, 1929 in Pottsville, Pa. His parents moved to Baltimore where he attended and graduated from Samuel Coleridge Taylor Elementary School, Booker T. Washington Junior High and Frederick Douglass High School. A gifted athlete, he excelled in football and track.
Lloyd G. McDonald
Lloyd G. McDonald, retired director of Student Affairs, Baltimore City Public Schools, died Oct. 6. He was 95. Mr. McDonald, a native Texan, was the son of Lloyd Sr. and Ella Mae McDonald, respectively.
Hazel Thompson Barrett
Born in Somerset, Pennsylvania, Mrs. Barrett was the youngest of six children born to a loving household. Mrs. Barrett often expressed what a unique experience it was to grow up one of only a few black families in Somerset. In fact, according to family history, her father, who owned a scrap yard, often received mail addressed simply to “the colored junkman of Somerset.”

Lela Mary Cornish Summerville, daughter of the late James and Mary Cornish was born Dec. 10, 1898, in Baltimore. She was baptized at the early age of 1 month by Father George Stone in the Church of St. Mary The Virgin, formerly known as Mount Calvary, located at that time on Orchard Street.
Joe Berry Fisher
Joe Berry Fisher, born March 5, 1921, in Greenwood, S.C., to the late James and Rosa Lee Fisher, died Oct. 21. Fisher was reared and educated in South Carolina, where he met his childhood sweetheart, Ethel Walker.

Daughter of the late Charles and Emma Spears, Ardella was born Sept. 4, 1922 in Baltimore. She died Oct. 7. Ardella was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church of Christ for over 25 years.

Vernice Valarie Epps was born July 27, 1958 in Baltimore to Ellsworth and Vernice Musgrove. She was one of four children, Ellsy Tyrone Musgrove, Laverne Wilkins and Michelle Johnson.

Robert Pringle was born April 7, 1933 to Charles Pringle and Mary Washington in Baltimore. He died Sept. 18, and was reunited with his parents, brothers and sisters, Helen, Emma, Richards and Rudolph.

Clarice Cecilia Brooks Jackson was born on Dec., 8, 1940 in Washington DC and departed this life on Sept., 21 at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore.

Daughter of the late George and Etta O. Rogers, the youngest of three children, Reva Romaine Spencer was born Oct. 5, 1922. She attended Baltimore City Schools, graduating from Douglass High School in June 1941.
Daisy Juanita Peterson
Daisy Juanita Hall was born on June 1, 1923, in St. Mary's County, Md. She was the youngest of eleven children of John and Bertha Hall. Her brothers and sisters were Webster, Lizzie, Julia, John, Charles, Mamie, Robert, Bertha, Sadie and Rebecca.

Elizabeth Wilkes, daughter of the late James Allen and Remeda Smith was born June 15, 1934 in Kelton, S.C. She was the second of 12 children. She died July 8.

Gabrella Gore McNair was born Sept. 19, 1917 to the late Deacon Joseph and Missionary Elizabeth Rebecca Gore in Birmingham, Ala. She entered into eternal peace and joy on Aug. 26, at Future Care Lochearn in Baltimore.
James Augusta Lee
James Augusta Lee, fondly called by family and friends Jim, worked for the AFRO-American Newspapers as a truck driver and for King Transportation Company as a bus driver before he retired. Later, he started his own landscaping business

Daughter of the late Edward and Cora Johnson, Sallie Mae McMillan was born Feb. 8, 1941 in Baltimore. She was raised on Norris Lane in Dundalk. She died May 31.
Bishop Monroe R. Saunders
Heralded as a visionary and leader for his public outreach efforts and expansive ministries, Bishop Monroe R. Saunders died at his Ashburton, Md. home on Aug. 8 from cancer. He was 89.

Donald Eugene Franklin, son of the late Aillen Hubbard Franklin and James A. Franklin, born in Baltimore Sept. 10, 1955, died May 11. A product of the Baltimore City Public School System, Donald attended Baltimore City Community College.
